User access codes are how authorized people arm and disarm your DSC PowerSeries Neo alarm system. From time to time, you may need to add new codes, update existing ones, or remove old codes to maintain security. This guide walks you through changing user codes using the system’s LCD keypad.

Why Updating User Codes Matters

Keeping user codes current ensures only trusted individuals can access and control your alarm system. Regularly updating codes can:

  • Protect against unauthorized access
  • Reflect personnel changes
  • Improve overall system security

Before You Begin

Make sure you have:

  • A keypad with an LCD display
  • A valid installer, master, or user access code with permission to change codes
  • The new codes you want to assign

How to Change User Codes

1. Disarm the System

The system must be disarmed before making changes to user codes.

2. Enter the User Functions Menu

Press *, then 5 on the keypad to enter the User Functions menu.

3. Enter Your Access Code

When prompted, enter an authorized access code that has permissions to manage other codes.

4. Select “Change User Code”

Use the arrow keys to scroll to Change User Code, then press * to select.

5. Choose the User Slot

Each user has a numbered slot. Select the user number you want to change.

6. Enter the New Code

Type the new user code (typically 4–6 digits) and press * to confirm.

7. Finish and Exit

Press # until you return to the home screen. Your changes are saved.

Adding a New User Code

To add a new user code, follow the same steps above and choose a free user slot. Enter the new code when prompted.

Deleting or Disabling a Code

To remove a user code:

  1. Enter the User Functions menu as above
  2. Select the user slot you want to delete
  3. Enter blank or zero code when prompted, or choose Delete/Disable (if shown)
  4. Press * to confirm and exit

This removes access rights for that user.

Tips for Secure Codes

  • Use codes that aren’t easy to guess (avoid sequential numbers like 1234)
  • Don’t share codes over insecure channels (email, text)
  • Update codes periodically, especially after personnel changes

Troubleshooting

  • If the keypad rejects your changes, confirm your access code has permission to manage user codes
  • Ensure the user slot you are editing is valid
  • If changes aren’t saving, exit the menu and retry

Helpful Tip

Keep a secure record of all active user codes and update it when changes are made. This helps with future management and troubleshooting.
